Can anyone use PayPal
Most adults can use PayPal, but whether you can open an account depends on your age, your country and the financial rules that apply where you live.
PayPal is available across more than 200 markets, and signing up online or through the mobile app does not cost anything. The services you get, however, vary by country.
- Age: You need to be at least 18, or the age of majority in your region, to open an account.
- Residency: Accounts are country specific. The U.S. user agreement, for example, applies only to U.S. accounts and requires individual users to be U.S. residents.
- Contact details: A valid email address and a verified mobile number are required.
- Funding source: You link a supported payment method, such as a debit card, credit card or bank account.
In India, PayPal works differently from many other markets. It stopped supporting domestic INR payments in April 2021, so Indian accounts can only be used for international transactions, such as buying from overseas websites or receiving payments from clients abroad.
- PAN and bank account: To receive international payments, an Indian account must be linked to a PAN card and an active Indian bank account.
- Automatic withdrawal: Money received is moved to the linked Indian bank account automatically within 24 hours.
