Does PayPal accept RuPay
PayPal does not officially accept domestic RuPay cards, though some users say international RuPay Select or Platinum cards linked successfully when entered as Discover or Diners Club.
The main barrier is that RuPay debit and credit cards issued for domestic use only are not connected to international card networks, so PayPal cannot process them for cross-border payments. Several sources state plainly that RuPay cards cannot currently be linked to PayPal for international transactions.
Reports of success come from user forums such as Quora, not from PayPal. They involve higher-tier international RuPay cards that carry a Discover or Diners Club partner logo. Any PayPal overview for Indian users should treat this as an unofficial workaround that may not work for every card or bank.
- Log in: Sign in to your PayPal account.
- Open card linking: Go to the wallet section and choose the option to link a debit or credit card.
- Pick a network: If RuPay is not listed, select Discover or Diners Club as the card type.
- Submit details: Enter the card number and other details, then submit.
If the card is domestic only, or your bank has not enabled it for international online transactions, the linking attempt or payment will fail with an error. Check with your issuing bank whether international e-commerce use is switched on, and look for a Discover or Diners Club logo on the card. Visa and Mastercard cards are the more reliable choice for international payments through PayPal.
