Does PayPal support UPI in India

PayPal supports UPI in India only for international transactions, through a partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), and not for domestic payments.

The link between PayPal and UPI covers two cross-border uses: Indians paying overseas merchants, and people abroad sending money into India. It does not let you pay someone inside India.

PayPal has stopped domestic INR transfers within India altogether. As a result, you cannot combine PayPal and UPI to send money to another person or business in the country. A PayPal overview for India would place the service firmly in the international payments category.

Options that connect international payments with India include:

  • PayPal World: This global PayPal platform lets Indian users choose PayPal at checkout on foreign shopping sites or when travelling, and complete the payment with their existing UPI setup.
  • Xoom: PayPal's international money transfer service lets non-resident senders abroad send funds in real time straight to a recipient's UPI ID in India.
  • Skydo: An RBI-authorised cross-border payments platform for Indian freelancers, exporters and small businesses, letting them receive payments from international clients into their Indian bank account.
