How to do PayPal payment

To do a PayPal payment, log in to your PayPal account on the website or mobile app, then send money to a person or choose PayPal at an online checkout.

PayPal's help pages note that you do not need funds in your PayPal balance to pay, because a payment can come directly from a linked credit card or debit card. As a PayPal overview of paying someone, the steps for sending money to a person are:

1. Log in: Open the PayPal app or website and go to Send and Request.
2. Enter the recipient: Type the person's name, username, email address or phone number, then select Next.
3. Add the amount: Enter how much you are sending and pick the currency.
4. Choose the payment type: Where offered, mark the payment as Goods and Services or Friends and Family.
5. Pick a payment method: Select a linked bank, credit card, debit card or your PayPal balance.
6. Review and send: Check the details, then select Send Payment Now.

Paying for an online purchase with PayPal follows a shorter path.

1. Select PayPal: Click the PayPal button on the merchant's checkout page.
2. Sign in: Log in with your PayPal email address and password.
3. Confirm: Choose your funding source in the pop-up window and complete the purchase.
