How to start a Wise account
To start a Wise account, register on the Wise website or mobile app with your email, choose a personal or business account, then verify your phone and identity.
Wise lets you sign up with an email address or through a Google, Facebook or Apple login. For a quick Wise overview, its help centre describes the account as a way to hold money in more than 40 currencies and convert between them at the mid-market rate.
- Register: Open the Wise website or app, select Register and enter your email address, or sign up using Google, Facebook or Apple.
- Pick an account type: Choose Personal for everyday spending and personal transfers, or Business if you are a freelancer or a company.
- Select your country: Enter the country where you live most of the time. It should match the country on your official government documents.
- Verify your phone: Add your phone number and type in the 6-digit code Wise sends you by text message.
- Set a password: Create a strong password to protect the new account.
- Add personal details: Provide your legal name, date of birth and home address.
- Verify your identity: Upload a photo of a government-issued ID, such as a passport or driver's license, and take a selfie if asked so that all account features become available.
