Who uses PayPal

PayPal is used by individual consumers, freelancers and millions of businesses worldwide to send money, receive money and process payments online.

PayPal says purchases can be made through it at millions of online stores across more than 200 global markets. As a PayPal overview of its user base, most people and companies on the platform fall into four broad groups.

• Individual consumers: People use personal accounts to shop online without handing their card numbers to merchants, send money to friends and family, and pay for monthly subscriptions.
• Freelancers and creators: Independent workers use business accounts to accept international payments and get paid by overseas clients in foreign currencies. Wise notes that PayPal works in India, though with some limitations.
• Small and large businesses: E-commerce stores, digital service providers and global retail brands add PayPal to their checkout so customers can pay securely, and PayPal says it can be used online or in person with millions of popular brands.
• Marketplaces and auction sites: Platforms such as eBay and other peer-to-peer selling sites use PayPal to handle transactions between buyers and sellers.
