What does the 44ADA calculator show you?
The 44ADA calculator estimates your income tax under the presumptive scheme for professionals, where tax is worked out on 50% of your gross professional receipts. It shows your total tax payable under the new and old tax regimes side by side.
The result has three parts:
- The 50% benefit: A chart of your total receipts against the 50% that’s taxable.
- New tax regime: Total tax payable, with no Chapter VI-A deductions.
- Old tax regime: Total tax payable after the 80C, 80D, NPS and other deductions you enter.
For who qualifies for the scheme and how it works in law, read our guide to Section 44ADA of the Income Tax Act.
How to use the 44ADA calculator
The 44ADA calculator needs your yearly receipts, any other income and your old-regime deductions. It takes about a minute if your numbers are ready.
- Enter your annual gross receipts: Your total professional receipts for the financial year, up to the ₹75 lakh limit shown under the field.
- Add other income: Enter savings account interest and dividends.
- Enter old-regime deductions: Fill in 80C, 80D, NPS under 80CCD(1B) and any other deductions. Skip this block if you’ll file under the new regime.
- Add your name and mobile number: This unlocks the complete breakdown.
- Compare the two regimes: Read the total tax payable under each one.
The result is an estimate. Ask your CA to confirm the final figure before you file.
What should you keep ready before using the 44ADA calculator?
You need your receipts for the financial year, your interest and dividend figures, and your deduction proofs if you’re comparing the old regime.
| Input | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Annual gross receipts | Your invoices for the year, matched to bank credits. For foreign clients, your FIRA or bank advice shows the rupee amount of each payment |
| Other income | Bank interest certificates, dividend statements or your Annual Information Statement (AIS) |
| 80C | Proofs for PPF, ELSS, life insurance premium and similar investments |
| 80D | Health insurance premium receipts |
| NPS under 80CCD(1B) | Your NPS contribution statement |
Use figures for one financial year only. Receipts counted in the wrong year move your tax into the wrong return.
How does the 44ADA calculator work out your tax?
The 44ADA calculator starts from 50% of your gross receipts, adds your other income in full and applies deductions only in the old regime column. It then applies each regime’s slab rates.
- Presumptive income: 50% of your gross professional receipts.
- Other income: Added at full value.
- Deductions: 80C, 80D, 80CCD(1B) and other deductions are subtracted in the old regime only.
- Tax: Each regime’s slab rates are applied, giving total tax payable.
Why other income isn’t in the 50% chart: The 44ADA 50% rule applies only to your professional receipts. Savings interest and dividends are taxed in full, so the calculator adds them after the 50% step and leaves them out of the chart.
For example, say you’re a consultant with ₹18,00,000 in receipts from overseas clients and ₹40,000 in savings interest and dividends. You also have ₹1,50,000 under 80C, ₹25,000 under 80D and ₹50,000 under 80CCD(1B).
| Line | New regime | Old regime |
|---|---|---|
| Gross receipts | ₹18,00,000 | ₹18,00,000 |
| Presumptive income (50%) | ₹9,00,000 | ₹9,00,000 |
| Add other income | ₹40,000 | ₹40,000 |
| Less deductions | Not applied | ₹2,25,000 |
| Income the slabs apply to | ₹9,40,000 | ₹7,15,000 |
The calculator applies each regime’s slabs to these figures and shows total tax payable for both. A lower taxable income in the old regime can still mean higher tax, because the new regime has lower slab rates.

How to read your 44ADA result
Your 44ADA result tells you how much of your receipts is taxed and which regime costs less on the numbers you entered.
| Result | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| The 50% Benefit (Section 44ADA) chart | Your total receipts next to the 50% that’s taxable |
| New Tax Regime total | Tax payable with no Chapter VI-A deductions |
| Old Tax Regime total | Tax payable after the deductions you entered |
| Gap between the two totals | How much you save by picking the lower regime on these inputs |
The 50% figure is the minimum income you can declare under the scheme. If your actual profit is higher than half your receipts, the higher profit is taxable. Once you have your number, see how to file your return under 44ADA.
Who should use the 44ADA calculator?
The 44ADA calculator is built for resident professionals in the specified professions whose receipts sit within the scheme’s limit. Three groups get the most from it.
Freelancers and consultants billing foreign clients
Foreign clients pay by bank transfer, and bank receipts don’t count as cash for the 5% test. That keeps most freelancers billing abroad eligible for the ₹75 lakh limit. Enter your yearly receipts in rupees and see what the 50% rule leaves taxable.
Professionals choosing between tax regimes
Enter your deductions and compare the two totals. If your deductions are small, the new regime often comes out lower. The calculator shows the gap in rupees for your own numbers.
Professionals planning advance tax
Use the total tax payable as a starting estimate for your advance tax. Your CA can adjust it for TDS already deducted and any income the calculator doesn’t cover.
If your profession isn’t on the specified list, or your expenses run above half your receipts, the scheme may not suit you. Our guide to the presumptive taxation scheme for freelancers covers both cases.
