What Services Does the SBI e-Trade Portal Offer?

SBI e-Trade is a digital platform that helps businesses manage various import and export banking activities online. Instead of visiting a branch for every trade-related request, businesses can use the portal to initiate transactions, submit documents and track the progress of their trade finance activities. The services available depend on the business's banking relationship, product eligibility and access permissions.

Some of the key services offered through SBI e-Trade include:

  • Letters of Credit (LC): Businesses can initiate and manage Letter of Credit-related requests for import and export transactions. An LC provides payment assurance to the seller, subject to the terms and conditions agreed upon by the buyer and the issuing bank.
  • Export Bill Lodgement: Exporters can submit export bills and related documents through the portal for processing by SBI. This helps manage the documentation and collection process after goods or services have been exported.
  • Export Financing Requests: Eligible exporters can initiate requests for export-related finance, helping them access working capital against eligible export transactions.
  • Inward Remittance Services: Businesses can access information and services related to foreign payments received from overseas customers. This helps exporters manage incoming funds and related banking requirements.
  • EDPMS Enquiries and Reconciliation: Exporters can check details of their export transactions reported in the Export Data Processing and Monitoring System (EDPMS). The portal also supports services such as extension requests and reconciliation to help businesses address outstanding export entries and keep their records updated.

eForex: Online Foreign Exchange Rate Booking

SBI also offers eForex through YONO Business, a separate digital service that allows eligible customers to book foreign-exchange rates online. Businesses can use it to access exchange rates and book eligible forex transactions without having to coordinate every rate request manually with their branch.

It is important to distinguish eForex from equity trading. The service is designed for foreign-exchange transactions and related banking requirements, rather than buying and selling shares or securities.

How Does SBI Handle Inward Remittances for Exporters?

SBI receives export remittances through banking channels such as SWIFT and offers digital inward-remittance journeys through eTrade on YONO Business. Start at https://yonobusiness.sbi.bank.in and select eTrade after login, using the services enabled for your account.

  • Payment route: A SWIFT transfer may pass through correspondent banks before reaching SBI. Sending or intermediary banks may charge fees depending on the route and the agreed charge arrangement.
  • Payment tracking: SBI offers remittance-status tracking and SMS or email credit alerts. Contact the handling branch or Relationship Manager (RM) if a payment needs investigation or a SWIFT message copy is required.
  • Proof of receipt: Ask SBI which remittance advice or certificate applies to your receipt and how to obtain it. SBI issues FIRC where required; its customer guide lists T+1 from realisation, subject to its stated exclusions. FIRC is not required for every export receipt. For service-export GST refunds, the rules refer to relevant Bank Realisation Certificates or FIRCs, as applicable.
  • EDPMS closure: For applicable exports, SBI reports and reconciles receipts in EDPMS. Its eTrade digital journeys include EDPMS enquiry, extension requests and reconciliation; required documents and bank checks still apply. Generating a DGFT eBRC is separate and does not itself close an EDPMS entry.

What Does It Cost to Receive International Payments Through SBI?

Receiving international payments through SBI can involve applicable SBI service charges, sending or correspondent-bank charges, taxes and the exchange rate used for conversion. The total varies by transaction and customer category. Compare a written quote for your actual invoice rather than assuming a standard percentage deduction.

  • SWIFT charges: The sending bank may charge a transfer fee, and correspondent banks may deduct charges depending on the payment route and charge arrangement. SBI lists no charge for incoming SWIFT messages; this does not eliminate other applicable export-service or bank charges.
  • SBI's own fees: For non-export-credit customers, the tariff effective 1 October 2026 lists ₹50 per IRM reporting for export receipts up to ₹10 lakh and ₹500 per remittance above ₹10 lakh. The corresponding export-remittance charge for export-credit customers is Nil. Other handling/reporting charges and applicable GST may still apply.
  • Forex conversion: Compare SBI's quoted INR conversion rate with the market rate at the same time. The effective conversion cost depends on the rate agreed for your transaction; do not assume a fixed SBI markup.
  • Total cost: SBI publishes category-based service charges, including fixed amounts, but your final INR credit also depends on the conversion rate, customer category, payment route, other-bank charges and taxes. Ask for the applicable tariff and agreed rate before instructing the transfer.

⚠️ COMMON MISCONCEPTION

The listed receiving charge is not always the full cost. Compare the final INR credit after all applicable fees and currency conversion.

How Does SBI e-Trade Compare to Dedicated Cross-Border Payment Platforms?

SBI's banking route and dedicated cross-border payment platforms like Skydo offer different payment and compliance workflows. Compare exchange rates, total charges, settlement conditions, tracking tools and remittance documents for your transaction. Skydo offers automatic FIRA and published fees, with settlement subject to checks and corridor-specific timelines.

Expert advice

When comparing options, always calculate the total cost on a real invoice amount, including forex margin. Don't stop at the listed transfer fee.

How Does Skydo Help Indian Exporters and Freelancers Receive International Payments?

Skydo is an RBI-authorised payment aggregator offering cross-border payment collection for Indian exporters and freelancers. Compare its supported routes, pricing and documentation with your bank's services.

  • Virtual accounts at no cost: Skydo offers local receiving details in USD, EUR, GBP, SGD, AUD, CAD and AED, with no setup or monthly fee. Clients can use the supported local transfer route, and Skydo settles the proceeds to your registered Indian bank account.
  • Transparent pricing: Skydo's standard bank-transfer fees are USD 19 + GST up to USD 2,000, USD 29 + GST for USD 2,001–10,000, and 0.3% + GST above USD 10,000. GST is 18% of the fee. Skydo offers live mid-market conversion with zero FX markup and no monthly fee. Supported local transfers avoid SWIFT fees; a separate SWIFT route is also available. Amazon Global Selling pricing differs.
  • Auto-issued FIRA at no charge: Every transaction automatically generates a free Foreign Inward Remittance Advice (FIRA) certificate. No manual follow-up with any RM or branch is required.
  • eBRC assistance: Connect DGFT, upload shipping bills and use Skydo's payment auto-mapping tools to help generate eBRCs for realised export proceeds. DGFT eBRC generation and the AD bank's EDPMS reconciliation remain separate processes.
  • Settlement subject to checks: Skydo's terms provide for commercially reasonable efforts to credit funds within T+1 to T+3 business days after Skydo screening and compliance checks, depending on currency and corridor and subject to checks and processing by other financial institutions.
  • Digital setup: Onboarding is online, with account activation subject to verification and approval.
  • India-based support: You can reach the team via WhatsApp, call, or text. The team is India-based, so you aren't routed to a global support queue.
  • Suited for: Eligible goods and service exporters, freelancers and Amazon sellers, subject to KYC, supported payment routes and transaction requirements. Amazon Global Selling pricing differs.
