Does India use IBAN
India does not use the International Bank Account Number (IBAN) system for its banking operations.
For domestic transfers within India, banks use the IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) along with your bank account number. The IFSC is an 11-character code that identifies a specific branch. For international money transfers, Indian banks require a SWIFT or BIC code, your account number, and branch details instead of an IBAN.
- Domestic Transfers: Use your bank account number and IFSC code to receive payments within India.
- International Transfers: Provide your full bank account number, account holder name, bank name, branch address, and the correct SWIFT code for your branch.
If an overseas client or payment platform asks for an IBAN for an Indian bank account, you should give them these details instead, as Indian banks do not issue IBANs.
