Stripe does not offer direct UPI collection for standard merchant accounts in India, but UPI can be available to Indian buyers through Stripe's Link checkout wallet or invite-only betas.

UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is supported on Stripe only in limited ways, so it is worth checking which route applies to your account before building a checkout around it.

UPI through Link: Eligible merchants can let buyers in India pay by UPI inside Link, Stripe's checkout wallet. Paying this way signs the buyer up for a Link wallet automatically.
Standard Indian accounts: Stripe accounts in India mainly accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards for domestic and international payments, not native UPI collection.
Invite-only access: Stripe is available in India by invite only, so Indian businesses must request an invite instead of signing up directly. The focus is on international export payments rather than domestic retail checkout.
Real-time payment betas: Stripe asks businesses to contact it for access to exclusive real-time payment method features or to join its betas.

If most of your customers are in India and expect to pay by UPI at checkout, compare Stripe alternatives such as local Indian payment gateways that support UPI natively. If you mainly bill clients outside India, confirm with Stripe whether your invite-only account covers the payment methods those clients use.
