Does Wise work in Pakistan

Wise works in Pakistan with limits: residents can send money abroad and receive PKR into a local bank account, but cannot hold foreign currencies or get a Wise debit card.

Pakistani residents can open a Wise account and verify it with a Pakistani ID. What the account can do is narrower than in countries where Wise offers its full feature set.

  • Sending money abroad: A Pakistan-based Wise account can be used to send money out of the country.
  • Receiving PKR: Senders abroad can use Wise to transfer Pakistani rupees (PKR) straight into a personal bank account in Pakistan, for example from British pounds.
  • Foreign-issued Wise cards: A Wise card issued in another country can be used to spend in Pakistan or withdraw cash at supported ATMs.
  • No multi-currency balance: Accounts registered in Pakistan cannot hold USD, EUR, GBP or other foreign currencies.
  • No local account details: Pakistani users do not receive foreign account details such as a US routing number or a UK sort code.
  • No debit card: Wise does not issue physical or virtual debit cards to people living in Pakistan.

These limits matter most for freelancers who want to be paid by clients abroad and keep the money in dollars or euros. Anyone weighing Wise against a best SWIFT payment alternative in Pakistan often looks at other options for that purpose.

  • SadaPay and NayaPay: Local digital wallets in Pakistan that provide a virtual or physical debit card.
  • Payoneer: Used by freelancers to receive and hold payments from international clients.
