Does Upwork accept PayPal
Yes, Upwork accepts PayPal, both as a withdrawal method for freelancers and as a billing method for clients paying for work on the platform.
Freelancers can use PayPal to withdraw funds from Upwork once the account is added in settings. The process works like this:
- Open settings: Go to Account settings on desktop, or Settings in the mobile app, and choose Withdrawals.
- Add PayPal: Select PayPal as the withdrawal method and connect your PayPal account.
- Wait out the security hold: A newly added PayPal account has a three-day security waiting period before withdrawals can be made.
After setup, most transfers from Upwork to PayPal are processed right away, although some can take longer.
Clients can also pay with PayPal, subject to a few conditions:
- Account standing: The PayPal account must be verified, active and in good standing before it can be added as a billing method.
- Backup funding: A backup payment method, such as a credit card, needs to be linked inside the PayPal account.
- Location: The billing methods available to a client depend on where that client is located.
PayPal can only be used for payments made through an official Upwork contract. Paying or getting paid through PayPal outside the platform breaks Upwork's terms of service and can lead to the account being banned.
