How long does Wise payment take
Most Wise payments arrive within one working day, and many complete in a few hours or seconds, depending mainly on how you fund the transfer.
Wise states on its India send money page that 74% of its transfers arrive in under 20 seconds. The rest can take longer because the money first has to reach Wise before it is sent on to the recipient.
The funding method you pick has the biggest effect on delivery time:
- Debit or credit card: A card payment usually reaches Wise instantly or within a few hours.
- Wise balance: Paying from money already held in your Wise account is instant.
- Bank transfer or ACH: Funding by bank transfer can take 1 to 4 working days before the transfer completes.
- SWIFT or international wire: A wire can take 1 to 6 working days, and sometimes longer when intermediary banks handle the payment.
Several other factors can push a Wise transfer past its first estimate:
- Currency pair: Transfers between major currencies such as USD, GBP and EUR tend to move quicker than those involving rare or restricted currencies.
- Weekends and holidays: Wise processes transfers on working days, so a request made on a weekend is handled on the next business day.
- Security and regulatory checks: If Wise needs to run identity or compliance checks on a transfer, this can add 2 to 10 working days.
