To send money with Wise, create a free Wise account, choose the currencies, add the recipient's bank details, verify your identity if asked, and pay for the transfer.
Wise sends money internationally at the mid-market exchange rate, with the fee shown upfront rather than built into a markup. Transfers can go directly to a recipient's bank account in more than 160 countries.
- Sign up: Register for free on the Wise website or mobile app using an email address or a Google login.
- Start a transfer: Click Send Money and pick the currency you are sending from and the currency the recipient will receive.
- Add the recipient: Enter the recipient's bank details or account information.
- Verify your identity: Upload a photo ID if Wise requests it, which is more likely for larger amounts.
- Pay for the transfer: Fund it with a local bank transfer, a debit card or money already held in your Wise balance.

On speed, Wise states that over 70% of its transfers arrive instantly and most reach the recipient within 24 hours. For some routes, such as sending US dollars to India, Wise uses an international wire transfer, and its calculator can be used to estimate the transfer before sending.
