How to get PayPal

You can get an online payments account by signing up on the official website or the official mobile app, choosing a personal or business account and verifying your details.

Once it is set up, a PayPal account lets you shop online, send and request money and manage payments, with Buyer Protection on eligible purchases.

1. Open the sign-up page: Visit the official website, or install the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
2. Start sign-up: Click or tap Sign Up in the top right corner.
3. Pick an account type: Choose a Personal Account for shopping or sending money to friends, or a Business Account for selling goods and accepting payments.
4. Verify your phone: Enter your mobile number and type in the code sent to it by text message.
5. Set your login: Add your email address and create a secure password.
6. Add personal details: Fill in your legal name, date of birth and home address.
7. Link a payment method: Connect a debit card, credit card or bank account to fund purchases or withdraw money you receive. This step can also be done later.
8. Confirm your email: Click the verification link sent to your inbox.
