How to use PayPal with Google Pay
To use PayPal with Google Pay, add a PayPal Debit Card to Google Wallet as a payment card, since Google has ended payments through a directly linked PayPal account.
Google Wallet Help states that from June 16, 2025, a PayPal account linked to Google Wallet can no longer be used for payments. PayPal's own guidance says a PayPal Debit Card is needed to use PayPal with Google Pay.
- Open Google Wallet: Launch the app on your Android device.
- Tap Add to Wallet: Find it at the bottom of the screen or through your profile icon.
- Choose Payment card: Select this option to add a card.
- Enter card details: Type in the PayPal Debit Card number, expiry date and CVV.
- Verify: Complete any security prompts or text message verification shown on screen.
You can also start from the PayPal app, which lets you add a PayPal card to a mobile wallet from the Accounts section and the card's settings.
- Account linking: Direct linking of a PayPal account login has been phased out or restricted in many regions in favour of physical or virtual PayPal debit cards.
- Card linking: A PayPal card added to Google Wallet can be used wherever Google Pay is accepted.
- No card available: If you cannot get a PayPal Debit Card in your country, you may need to consider PayPal alternatives for paying through Google Wallet.
