What does bacs stand for
BACS stands for Bankers’ Automated Clearing System, an electronic system based in the UK that facilitates the direct transfer of money from one bank account to another. This system is managed under the umbrella of Pay.UK, the main provider of retail payment infrastructures in the UK. A standard BACS payment follows a three-day cycle: day one is for submission, day two for processing, and by day three, the funds land in the destination account. BACS payments come in two main types. The first is Bacs Direct Credit, a method widely used by businesses to directly deposit salaries, pensions, and supplier invoices into accounts. The second type is Direct Debit, where a company is authorized to withdraw a specific amount from a customer's account on an agreed date, a method typically used for recurring bills such as utilities and subscriptions.
