Where PayPal is accepted

PayPal is accepted at millions of online stores and brands, plus some physical shops, across more than 200 countries and regions. Whether you can use it depends on the merchant and on local rules in your country.

Acceptance works differently depending on where and how you pay. A useful PayPal overview covers four main situations:

• Online checkout: Many e-commerce sites, including fashion, electronics and entertainment retailers such as Forever 21 and G2A, show a PayPal button at the payment step. If the button is there, the store takes PayPal.
• Pay Later at participating stores: Some merchants let you pick a PayPal Pay Later option at checkout, which splits the purchase into several payments. This is only offered where the merchant takes part.
• PayPal Debit Card: In the US, the PayPal Debit Card or PayPal Cashback Mastercard can be used at any shop that accepts Mastercard, which extends PayPal to physical stores that have no direct PayPal setup.
• In-store QR codes: The PayPal app lets you pay with a QR code at selected brick-and-mortar retailers, and PayPal also lists Pay at Pump as an in-person option.

Sending and receiving money between people is also available in many markets, but it follows local regulations. In India, for example, PayPal does not support domestic personal transfers, while it does support cross-border payments for business purposes.

To check whether PayPal works for you, look up your country on PayPal's list of supported countries and currencies, then confirm the merchant shows PayPal as a payment choice before you order.
